Ty had just moved into the loft in the barn and already there were raps on the door. "Come on, you lazy kid!" came the call from outside his door. Even though Ty had only been here for less than 24 hours, he knew that voice. He'd recognize it anywhere.. It was the voice of an old man, and there was only one man old enough on this ranch to have a voice as old as that. Jack Bartlett, his boss. "Yeah, give me a minute!" Was the only reply Ty could come up with to keep Jack from barging into the loft then and there to drag him out of bed.

Then Ty heard movement from within the loft. When he woke up, he didn't notice the other person occupying the room; she was blocked out by all his stuff, which he had yet to unpack. She was still asleep and he instantly regretted shouting his response to Jack. "Oh well.. No use fretting over it now.. I have -work- to do." Was the only thing he had time to think before receiving another angry rap at the door. "Are you coming, or am I gonna have to find a new Ranch Hand because the one I have now is too dead to get out of b-" He was cut off by the door opening with Ty standing there, covered up, but not yet fully dressed. "Oh what is the matter with you?" Was the only thing Jack could say. "Jack, could you be any more noisy? There's somebody else in here who's still sleeping.." He made a quick gesture over to the other occupant of the loft.

"Who the hell would want to sle--" Was Jack's initial reaction as he pushed Ty out of the way, until he realized that there actually WAS someone else sleeping in the loft, and that he was speaking to the current occupant of his loft. "Who would want to do what?" Came the reply from a slightly offended Ty. "To sleep here? Well, for your information.. Nobody in their right mind would EVER want to sleep in this piece of garbage you call a loft. Now please move out of my way, I have a job to do, which, may I remind you, two minutes ago you were so anxious for me to get started on this morning." Jack opened his mouth to come up with one of his many clever one-liners as Ty just pushed him aside and went to feed the horses downstairs.
Edit: Fixed a few grammatical things.

Jack started after Ty, and realized that it was useless, so he simply called out "I just hope you remember that you do still work for me!"
Man, there's no point in even replying to him, thought Ty as he began to lift the first of many cubes of hay.
[Will be continued in different thread, it's not the loft anymore, and I don't plan on returning to it for a post anytime soon.]
